endurance or long distance riding/raceing? If you are then you should have a look at the Peruvian Paso horse.
They
were bred in peru for the ranchers there. Over 500 years of breeding and culling produced the smoothest riding horse in the
world.
Peru is several hundred feet above sea level. These horses being bred there have a greater lung capacity.
This being bred into them their recovery rate is remarkable quick. Their unique gait allows them to cover the ground quickly
without expending a large amount of energy.
They have the classic arrogant looks of the "spanish" horse.
The attitude of "I`m gorgous and I know it". The attitude without the behaviour. They can be trained very easily.
They are reasonably easy keepers, and do well on poorer paddocks.
